about us

Hi! We are George and Shelly Clark. We have a big family with children ranging from married adult children to elementary kids, with our most recent additions of 7 and 8 year old boys.  We live in Liberty Lake, Washington. It’s a small town nestled between beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and the city of Spokane, Washington. We love the outdoors and spend most of our summers camping and boating in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Our adventures are always accompanied by our furry family members. Our first fur baby is a little Schnauzer-Jack Russell mix. She is now 16.5 years old and though we love her dearly, she has never been very fond of two things…water and kids.  She always tolerated our own children, but we have never been able to trust her to be left alone with other children.

George and I were anticipating our empty nester years in 2015 when our youngest daughter was the last kid at home and a sophomore in high school. God had other plans for us, however.  We became aware of 2 little boys needing a safe home so we decided to take them in and didn’t think it was going to be a forever arrangement. But after 2 years of fostering, we adopted them in 2017. At that time the boys were 2 and 3 years old.  We love them very much and could not imagine life without them.

Our “empty nester” plans drastically changed to “family phase 2” plans. We decided we needed to invest in a new family member… a puppy. I knew this time around we needed a pet that would love kids, water, and being active.  We also preferred low to no shedding. I started researching and came across the Portie (Portuguese Water Dog). We fell in love with our two girls, Storm and Sailor.   We couldn’t be happier with them.  Don’t get me wrong… puppy training can be tough, but after putting in the work we get to reap the benefit.

Storm and Sailor fit the description of Portuguese Water Dogs perfectly.  They are active, smart, funny, love water and kids!  They are very affectionate, sometimes mischievous, and great snugglers.  They crack us up all the time. Personalities are big! They love being in the water, on the boat, out hiking, and even sleeping in the tent.

We have loved learning about this breed and have amazing mentors helping us on this journey. We are excited to continue to learn and to help this breed by carefully planning and screening the dogs as well as prospective homes to provide healthy, happy forever family members.
